Nasturtium Joy!

nasturtium

It’s February in Florida which is why I am showing off our first nasturtium flower of 2025. I love these plants for many reasons:

  • They are beautiful
  • The leaves are great in a salad (very peppery flavor)
  • The flowers are great in a salad
  • Nasturtium plants seem to last forever – expanding and filling up any space with happy flowers

Careful, I might bite your head off!

I have to admit it is a little strange eating flowers.
There they are, being happy in the sun when I come along and pick the beauty off the plant and then break it up onto my salad. My salad looks great with flecks of deep orange and red, but what about the plant? It’s the cycle of life…that’s what I tell myself anyway.

Easy to grow

Nasturtiums are easy to grow. You can start them seed for even more fun or just buy a six pack and put them in a sunny place. It takes them a few weeks to get established in the ground, but once they get going you can almost forget about them. If you are going to eat them make sure you get organic seeds or plants and grow them in chem free soil.

Get a head start

Start seeds 6-8 weeks before planting them outside. They are heat loving plants, so be sure to plant them well past the last frost in your area.

There are many colors and styles of nasturtium! Grow Organic has seeds and baby nasturtium plants. Get lost at the Grow Organic Nasturtium page.
